Once a sailor has achieved their White and Bronze Sail levels, they can continue to advance their skills through the Silver, and Gold levels.
The Race programs are for sailors who want to continue to apply their technical skills and develop racing skills. Silver Sail VI and Gold Sail VII start by introducing sailors to racing, and moves into advanced racing techniques. They cover racing rules, sail theory, tactics and advanced boat handling skills in almost any wind condition. These courses are taught in “Laser II’s” and the sailors are expected to participate in regattas outside the club on the Ontario regatta circuit including CORK. Full time coaching is provided. Single-handed racers are encouraged to bring their own boats and will receive a discount if they do so.

Race Team is a program for sailors who are motivated and have a keen interest in racing and who wish to work through their Silver and Gold Sail levels. These sailors are expected to participate in an extensive regatta schedule and parents will be required to drive and chaperone at regattas.

Throughout the summer team members learn to race and compete at various regattas throughout Ontario & Quebec under the guidance of a CYA-certified Race Coach. Sailors learn racing rules, tactics, and competitive boat-handling skills through on-water drills and on-shore coaching sessions. By the end of the summer, participants in this program will become confident, highly-skilled sailors and may earn their CYA Learn to Race certificate.

The KYC Junior Race Team requires occasional weekend travel, and demands a high level of commitment from both sailors and their parents, who will be asked to chaperone at regattas and/or help provide transportation to races. In addition, regatta fees and travel expenses (transportation, lodging, food) are not covered in the program registration fee.
