Something new at KYC!
TGIF Sail

Friday, June 14th

In an effort to get non-boaters on the water an enjoyable evening on the lake is planned.Details to be finalized, depends on numbers, possibly a short race, perhaps just a social sail! If you are interested in participating just email Glenn at manager@kingstonyachtclub.ca and indicate whether you are a boater or non-boater and from there we will get everyone assigned to a boat. The evening will cap off with social time, munchies, food special etc!

ATTENTION ALL DRY MOORING HOLDERS

It is time to ensure that all boats on the breakwall and in the yard are suitably registered with the main office.

If you have registered your boat then please make sure you have attached the current year's transom sticker to your boat.

If you have not registered your boat then please do so at the main office at which time you will be issued a transom sticker.

As of Thursday, June 27th boats on club property without a transom sticker will be removed.

Thanking you in advance for what will hopefully be your prompt attention to this matter. Please send along any questions to Glenn at manager@kingstonyachtclub.ca or drop by the office in-person.

Sailpast 2013

Thanks to everyone who braved the questionable weather this past Saturday. Despite gloomy forecasts, we had about 30 boats lining up for review by your Flag Officers. Many participants put forth a effort to dress themselves or their boat in distinctive ways.

We'd like to acknowledge this effort with our list of "fun" awards:

Mindemoya - Best Decorated
Club Shark/Community Club - Most touques
Selene - Cutest foredeck crew
Compulsion - Closest pass/flyby ( < 6” )
Touch of Class - Best Dinghy in Tow (Ozzy)
Cara Mia V - Best 4 person standing salute
Alchemy - Best Dressed/Most Natty
Valkyr II - Most Patriotic
Force 10 - Most buoyant boat (12 people on board)
La Galouine - Best cross generational representation
Andrew Kelm - Best kayak with a dog

Once ashore, we were all treated to a music filled evening and a excellent dinner. I thank all those who came out and hope everyone enjoyed the official start to the KYC sailing season!

-Chris Walmsley, Commodore.

August 16, 17, 18 Picton Jazz Cruise Weekend

For information contact John Kitney, kitneyj@kingston.net

Plans are in the works for the annual cruise weekend in Picton, August 16 -18. For those that are interested we have pre-booked some tickets for the Saturday night show at the Regent Theatre (“The Canadian Songbook”). For details of this years’ Jazz Festival program visit http://www.pecjazz.org

You don’t have to be a jazz enthusiast to enjoy the Picton weekend sail and related activities. This KYC Cruisers’ event has been running since 2008 and participation peaked about two years ago with 40 club members and friends. For those that can make it to the Picton Harbour on Friday we will arrange a restaurant outing together. For Saturday evening (after our “boaters and friends happy hour”) we plan to have a catered group meal (about $25 per person), after which ticket holders can head over to the Regent for the show. The town is pretty, the sailing is fun, the company is superb - and the Saturday night show this year should have wide audience appeal.

KYC New Harbour
On May 15th the membership approved the motion proposed by the Board of Directors and the Strategic Planning Committee to move ahead with the new Harbour Project.

Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting and participated.
The club has signed the water lot lease and this has also been signed by the Department of Transport signalling the next phase of this project.
The engineering firm has been hired for the initial steps of the harbour design and analysis.

The New Harbour section of the website will be updated as we move forward, and we plan to create a Notice Board in the clubhouse to keep Members involved. We will also schedule several Town Hall meetings once the design work has progressed, so the members can be properly briefed on the project.

The New Harbour website can be found here:
www.kingstonyachtclub.ca/newharbour/
Any questions related to the project should be directed to: harbourquestions@kingstonyachtclub.ca

Cruiser's Sunday Sail
Sunday June 23rd

Judith and Robert Mackenzie invite the Cruising Fleet Sunday Sail on June 23rd to their place on Amherst Island. The plan is to raft at their mooring or anchor nearby and have lunch ashore before heading back to KYC later in the afternoon. If you have a dinghy it would be useful.
Departure from KYC at 10:15. It is about a two hour sail. If the weather or sea conditions are not suitable come by land.

Rain or shine it’s a GO.

For additional information please contact Judith or Robert Mackenzie at
robertmackenzie@bell.net or 613 548-8332.
On Amherst Island call 613-384-6861.
